Reconstructing Women International is a charity programme supported by female plastic surgeons whose goal is to help women suffering from disfiguring or socially excluding injuries and trauma, with the goal of enabling such women to continue on to lead happy and prosperous lives despite their injuries and trauma they have suffered in the past.
The programme was developed by the Secretary General of IPRAS, the International Society for Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, Marita Eisenmann-Klein, MD and the Chairperson of Quality Assurance of IPRAF, the International Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Foundation, Constance Neuhann-Lorenz, MD.
Reconstructing Women International’s first mission was conducted 2008 in Jalandhar, Punjab/North India, followed by numerous further missions in India (Kulu, Palampur, Lucknow, Vijayawada, Aurangabad, Vishakhapatnam), Bangladesh, Kenya, Pakistan, Tanzania and Cambodia. In all missions in India, women with mostly burn injuries were operated on by Reconstructing Women International’s experienced surgical teams.

Our first Mission in Cambodia, Phnom Penh
This September/October the first Reconstructing Women International team started in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, at the invitation of Dr. Jim Gollogly at CSC Children´s Surgical Centre working hand in hand with a fantastic local medical team.
Last Mission 2016 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Our international WfW-team just finished a very successful 2nd mission in cooperation with the Aga Khan Hospital (AKH) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Together with our cooperating surgeons and friends from the plastics and burns unit of the Muhimbili National Hospital we successfully operated on more than 30 women with severe burn contractures. All patients were screened by Dr. Edwin Mrema from the Muhimbili Hospital in advance selecting very good patients to operate on. The AKH team consisting of anesthesiologists, scrub nurses and all other OT and organizational staff was amazing and worked very hard on their holiday weekend - thank you all so very much!
We will be very happy to come back to continue this wonderful cooperation.

Blanca Bernheimer

Special features of this camp:
1)As per the knowledge of Team Leader Dr. Outi, probably this was one of the most successful & best camp ever happened in the history of Reconstructing Women International foundation till date all over the world considering the no. of cases , surgeries & mission performance!(though I know all missions are the best human efforts possible!)
2) We have done total 111 operative procedures on total 49 patients with totally free of any charges.(more than our expected & planned 100 surgeries)from 2nd to 10th April2016.

So, it was a great humanitarian mission!
4)The patients came from all over Maharashtra about 300 km periphery including Mumbai, Pune,Jalgaon,Nagar,Beed,Washim, etc.
5) Bembde Hospital team was working hard overtime since last two months to make this free surgery camp successful with the extra load of work due to lot many patients & overcrowding of the hospital premises.
6) The best part was that all free surgeries were done very well , without any complications or untoward events.
I salute the "Humanitarian spirits " of all the surgeons, anaesthesiologists, operation theater staff, nurses, admin & public relations staff along with all the Team Bembde Hospital for their great untiring efforts to help these neglected female patients having deformities.
